The Teaching excellence framework: technical consultation for year two (May 2016)

This consultation presented detailed proposals for:

  • how the TEF will assess teaching excellence;
  • the criteria that will define teaching excellence;
  • how judgements about excellence will be made, including the evidence base and use of core metrics;
  • how TEF outcomes will be communicated. 

Fulfilling our potential: Teaching excellence, social mobility and student choice (November 2015)

This consultation set out proposals for to introduce a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and a new single gateway for entry to the sector. It also set out proposed new architecture for the higher education system and considered the potential implications of these changes for the research landscape.

Assessing quality in higher education inquiry (November 2015)

The Business, Innovation and Skills Committee inquiry looked at proposed changes to quality assessment in universities and the potential impact of introducing a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

Making health and social care information accessible (October 2014)

This consultation lead by NHS England proposed a framework to ensure clearer health and care information for disabled people and their carers.

Public consultation on the review of the EU copyright rules (March 2014)

The objective of the consultation was to gather input from all stakeholders on the review of the EU copyright rules, particularly areas identified in the Communication on Content in the Digital Single Market (IP/12/1394), i.e. territoriality in the single market, harmonisation, limitations and exceptions to copyright in the digital age; fragmentation of the EU copyright market; and how to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of enforcement while underpinning its legitimacy in the wider context of copyright reform.

Consultation on open access in the post-2014 REF (October 2013)

HEFCE consulted on the details around the policy that research submitted to a post-2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) should be made available in an open-access form. They sought views on how what criteria would be used to judge whether an output was open-access, the definition of which outputs would be within the scope of the policy, and the approach we would take to dealing with exceptions to this requirement.
